When it comes to space, you can sit back and relax as far as 10 feet away from the screen where the image is projected. This distance won’t cause any damage to the 4k quality, as you will still be able to clearly see the pixels.

The projector is UHD with 4K Enhancement Technology. So, as mentioned previously, it accepts all 4K UHD content and is able to upscale the non-4K content up to a resolution greater than Full HD.

The 3LCD tech used for this Epson projector is 3-chip, meaning that you will not experience rainbow effects, white segments or colour wheel. In terms of brightness, the projector is capable of HDR10 with full 10-bit colour output. This also means that you will be able to experience colours similar to real life, which is a plus, of course. Things to Know Before Buying

The first thing you should know about the 4K projectors is that while some of them have a true 4K resolution, others can only accept 4K content. Basically, this means that there are those that display the image at a 4096 x 2160 (or 3840 x 2160) resolution without pixel shifting involved; and those that accept the display of 4K content but are just 1080p projectors, also known as 4k UHD projectors.

If you need more, let’s say, geeky information on the differences between true 4K and 4K UHD – we got you covered!

A piece of hardware able to display true 4K resolution uses an 8.3-megapixel chip, or more, and has no pixel overlapping. On the other side, hardware that is referred to as 4K UHD uses 4.15-megapixel chips. Still, with the help of pixel shifting, they are able to project the image twice and reach 8 megapixels.

Still, there are some 4K UHD projectors that even when pixel shifting, they display an image of only 4.15 megapixels, which basically makes them 1920 x 1080 x 2 resolution projectors. However, most 4K UHD projectors deliver a 2716 x 1528 x 2 resolution, thus meeting the 4K UHD standards and providing you with a 2K resolution image.

Now, having informed you over what type of 4K resolution these projectors can offer, it is time for us to move on to the technology these projectors work on. We’ll dive in terms such as DLP – digital light processing, 3LCD – 3-panel liquid crystal display, and LCoS – liquid crystal on silicon. Worth mentioning is that the LCoS technology is used by the people at Sony – one of their projectors being considered the first true 4K projector – under the name LCoS-SXRD.

Of course, you might wonder what we‘re thinking when introducing you with all of these tech terms and why not just tell you which ones are the best. But, the thing is you do need some information on this topic as well, so you’d choose the perfect one for you.

In the case of 4K projectors, it’s all about the pixels, the image quality – basically about how amazing the output will look on your screen. So, if you want to make the right choice, lean back and enjoy!

We won’t start and describe to you the functioning process of the 3 types of technologies mentioned earlier, as it will be pointless. Instead, we will mention their advantages and disadvantages.

Firstly, we’ll talk about DLP technology. Being able to reach a total of 37 billion colours – when being on a 3-chip architecture, not on a 1-chip DLP – 4K projectors that use the DLP tech have more natural colours and are preferred when considering a home cinema. A projector using this technology won’t give you burn-in effects, dead pixels, screen door effect and you won’t have any convergence problems.

As for the disadvantages, the 1-chip DLP models will come with a rainbow effect, because of the rotary colour filter, and they are also known to have lower colour intensity when compared to the white colour.

Moving on to the 3LCD technology, we have to mention that this is the oldest one on the market – which, in its case, makes it one of the best as well. The first thing you’ll definitely like about the 4K projectors that use this technology is that they don’t mind any additional light sources – they have superior luminosity compared to the other technologies, therefore being perfect for an outdoor home cinema or for those times when you want to watch something without turning off all the lights in a room.

Then, compared to the DLP, the colour intensity is the same and there is no rainbow effect that may occur with the 3LCD tech. Also, just for the dear consumer, that being you, it’s important to know that they consume less energy and produce less heat than the other types.

If you decide you want a projector with 3LCD technology, you should know that this type of chip is a bit more sensible to shocks – so be sure not to accidentally hit or drop it while transporting it. There’s also the chance that dead pixels will appear, as well as the screen door effect.

The LCoS technology combines both of the aforementioned technologies. Therefore, compared to 3LCD, their luminosity is even higher, making the 4K projectors with this tech being just perfect for an outdoor cinema, possibly even broad daylight projections. Also, there is no screen door effect, no rainbow effect, and all of the colours are simultaneously projected.

With the smooth image they are able to display and the much better quality when compared to the other two technologies, they do come at a fairly higher price. Keep in mind that there is also almost no competition for the LCoS technology.

Now you pretty much have all the information you need in order to make a good purchase. What’s left is to choose from the variety of 4K projectors.

You can read our in-depth guide on how to choose a 4K projector here

Final Thoughts

As you have seen, when it comes to 4K projectors, there are plenty of them you can choose from. Popular brands, as well as smaller ones, have successfully managed to create and offer us some of the best projectors out there.

We are sure, that in the close future, standard projectors that may be found in your home will be replaced by one of these 4K babies.

While the Sony VPL-VW675ES wins it when it comes to the sheer number of features and image quality, we now recognize in hindsight that it probably shouldn’t be compared to the other projectors on this list because of the massive gulf in price.

The best option really comes down to personal preferences – the display quality, the price, the brightness, the resolution, the technology the projector is functioning on. If we forced to choose one, we would give a shout out to the Optoma UHD51A because of its neat integration with Alexa and Google Assistant. Features

You’ll be thrilled to find out that this projector has many incredible features that make it superior among other similar home projectors. Let’s take a look at some of the important ones.

Good Brightness

When it comes to projectors, brightness is one of the most important things to look out for. If the brightness is poor, the overall viewing experience will not be as good. This projector performs really well in this department. It is made for home entertainment which means its brightness is really good even in lighting conditions that are not ideal. So it’s perfect for use in your living room or media room. 2,500 colors and white lumens allow this projector to be bright enough even when some ambient lighting is present in your room.

Full HD

With the Epson Home Cinema 2150, you get Full HD 1080p widescreen image resolution. This makes the image crisp, sharp, and detailed which definitely enhances your viewing experience.

Incredible Color and Sharpness

While many projectors struggle when it comes to color and sharpness, the Epson Home Cinema 2150 excels in this department. The color is dynamic, vivid, and true-to-life and the sharpness is impressive which will certainly enhance your viewing experience.

Great Dynamic Contrast Ratio

With 60,000:1 Contrast Ratio, this projector has a great dynamic contrast ratio. You’ll get a lot of detail and sharpness even in darker scenes and overall image quality is superb.

Wireless Screen Mirroring

With its Wi-Fi screen mirroring option, you can share multimedia content (including images and videos) to the Epson Home Cinema 2150 projector using the Miracast application. You simply need to connect your smartphone or tablet wirelessly to the projector and you can project whatever is on your screen.

Streaming Option

Another convenient feature of the Epson Home Cinema 2150 is that you can stream HD TV, as well as movies, videos, and games.

Other Features

Of course there’s more. Some other features of the Epson Home Cinema 2150 include 3LCD projection technology, vertical and horizontal keystone correction, 6:1 manual zoom with sliding lens door, MHL port, audio-out port and frame interpolation.

Pros

  • Awesome image quality: The first thing that stands out is the image quality. It gives you a crystal clear image with great contrast and rich colors. Whether you want to watch TV or play video games, you will be amazed at how good the image quality is.
  • Large screen: Its screen size can go up to 11 feet, which is quite impressive for a home theater machine. So if you want to have an impressive viewing and gaming experience, this projector will not disappoint you.
  • Affordable: As far as value for money goes, we can confidently tell you this is one of the best Epson projector models out there.
  • Easy to use: We found this projector very easy to set up and use. It comes with a well laid out remote controller that’s simple to use and the projector itself also contains the essential buttons like power, home, menu, enter, and volume buttons. The set-up instructions are very straightforward.
  • Great for gaming: This projector has 29.2 ms input lag which allows you to have a smooth gaming experience.
  • Good lamp life: Another great feature of the Epson Home Cinema 2150 is lamp life. This Epson model performs really well when it comes to lamp life with 4,000 hours when it’s in full power and 7,000 hours when it’s in ECO mode, which is quite exceptional.
  • Light weight: This portable projector weighs only 7.5 pounds which makes it easy to move around and setup.
  • Great speakers: It contains an incredible 10-watt speaker that’s built-in so the sound is very loud and crisp. However, you can also plug-in external speakers if you choose to.

Cons

  • Fan noise could be lower: Although the fan on the Epson Home Cinema 2150 is not as noisy as other projectors and won’t ruin your viewing experience, the noise can still be noticeable.

Alternatives

If you’re looking for a good Epson Home Cinema 2150 alternatives, we suggest you check out the BenQ HT2050A. It has similar features and is slightly cheaper which might be appealing to some.

BenQ HT2050A also has excellent image quality and good features, just like the Epson Home Cinema 2150. But it does have a slightly lower fan noise if that’s very important to you.

If you prefer the Epson brand, we recommend the Epson Home Cinema 2100 model which is quite similar to the Epson Home Cinema 2150, but it’s slightly cheaper. However, keep in mind that the 2100 model doesn’t have all of the features as the 2150 model, mainly the wireless option.

Conclusion

Overall, the Epson Home Cinema 2150 is quite impressive. This home projector has many different amazing features, including large screen size, full HD image, wireless and streaming options, and great brightness.

It is great both for watching TV and gaming which makes it very versatile. Although it is made mainly for home use, you can also use it for business and educational purposes. The price is quite reasonable when you take all of its features into consideration.

BenQ HT3550 Review – Perfect for Movie Nights

Choosing the right projector for your household can be a complex experience. Even if you’ve had a projector in your home for a long time, finding the right one to follow up with generally means a lot of research to compare the quality, longevity and other features of the projector.

The great thing is this BenQ HT3550 review is going to make it easier for you to decide whether or not this is the projector for you. So, let’s dive into who is going to get the most out of this projector, and just what it has that you’re looking for.

Who is it for?

The BenQ HT3550 is designed for those who want to have the best movie watching experience. That’s because it’s a 4K HDR projector. Not only that but it has even better cinematic aspects than you’ll find with just about any other projector. That’s where you’re really going to get your value for the money. You’ve heard of getting music that sounds just like the producer intended, well this is getting video just the way the director intended. So, this is a projector designed for those who want the best of the best.

Top Features

When it comes to the features you always want to know what your projector is going to do for you. After all, there are hundreds (or probably thousands) of different projectors out there. So what makes this one so special? Well, we’re going to talk about the most popular features and the things that you definitely want to know before you make your decision.

4K HDR

If you’re looking for high quality this is where you can find it. 4K HDR means that you’re going to have extremely strong dynamic range. In fact, this is one of the best types of dynamic range that you can get at this point and it makes sure your projector has a wider range of colors, which creates a far more realistic image on the screen. Other aspects of the BenQ HT3550 help to refine the features that you get from this.

Cinematic Color Technology

Here you’re getting the DCI-P3 color space. This is one of the latest forms of technology when it comes to the colors available, and gives you a larger visible spectrum than you can get with the older Rec. 709. Not only that but it has a higher level of native ANSI contrast ratio and it provides you with ISFccc certified calibration, which we’ll talk about a little bit more in a minute. Overall, this type of technology ensures the best image and detail.

Enhanced Color Mapping

Color mapping refers to the way that your projector will showcase variance in colors and while you’re probably used to seeing some great detail, you haven’t seen anything like this. It’s designed to avoid biasing different color temperatures or over-saturating colors. It does this by providing the most precise level of color rendition currently available, so you get a very realistic and lifelike image projected every single time.

Factory Calibrated Color Accuracy

Unlike some projectors that you have to take care of tuning and calibrating for yourself, this one is calibrated in the factory. That means you don’t have to worry about anything when you unpack it and want to start watching that first movie. You can just set it up and go because the company uses special tools to ensure precise color temperature, black level, neutral grey, RGBCMY color tracking, hue and saturation, brightness, output and more.

ISFccc Certified Visual Calibration

Next up, the ISFccc Certified Visual Calibration means that this projector has customization options that fit any space and it also has pre-set modes that you can use for day and night. In fact, there are specified light balances for each of these times of day so you don’t have to worry about too much brightness getting into the room (or the room getting too dark if you decide to shut off all the lights and the curtains). Instead, the projector itself takes care of adjusting to what you need.

HDR-PRO Tone Mapping

This technology only continues to improve upon what you can expect from the 4K HDR on its own. That’s because it’s designed to provide even greater contrast, which makes sure that your 4K videos are going to have even better detail than you’ve ever seen before. This feature is designed to make sure that you’re getting the full cinema experience without having to actually go to the cinema to do it. This is especially important with details that occur in dark areas of the screen, providing even better detail.

Optimized Movie Modes

There are specific modes included that are already preset and ready for watching in different areas. That means if you’re watching in a dark space or you’re watching somewhere with a bit more light you’re not going to have a problem getting the full movie experience (or the full cinema experience if that’s what you’re going for). Different modes are ideal for different types of movies as well, so you get the best your movie can handle.

Authentic Movie Motion

Have you ever had juddering in a projector when you were watching anything? The BenQ HT3550 doesn’t have that because it supports up to 24 frames per second. That means it doesn’t give you juddering even in HDR mode. You’ll get the right cadence for all of your movies and you won’t need to worry about pulldowns or any type of distortion while you’re at it. That makes for a much better movie watching experience.

High Quality Pixel Points

You’ll have a total of 8.3 million pixels in each frame that you watch, which is where you’re going to get even more of the detail that you’re looking for. Because each of these pixels are completely distinct there’s no worry about blurry frames or blurred out parts of the frame. This is going to contribute to the overall quality of the colors you get and the detail that comes with every image.

Sleek and Compact Projector Size

You don’t want anything that’s going to be too big and bulky and that’s not something you have to worry about with this projector. That’s because it’s designed to look sleek and stylish but, even more importantly, it’s designed to give you a small frame. This makes it easy for you to set up on a stand or to attach to the ceiling or wall without having to make a whole lot of space. Even if you’re upgrading from a different projector in this line you shouldn’t have a problem putting this one in the same place.

10-Element Lens Array

High resolution can be hard to find, but with the 10-element lens array here you’re not going to have that kind of problem. That’s because it’s designed into specialized groups that provide the right level of light penetration. This is also where you’re going to get a lot of sharpness, color quality and clarity throughout. The lens array is made with metal barrels and cell framework, which is what makes it so much better than any 1080p projector you might have tried.

Cinema Master Video+

You want your movie room to be just like a movie theater, and that’s what Cinema Master Video+ is going to do. It’s considered video enhancing, which it does through a 4K pixel enhancer and it also has a motion enhancer that can get rid of some of the lag you might get with other projectors and systems. Plus, you can add in the color enhancer, which gives you even more saturation for different colors, including hues and gradients. Finish it off with better flesh tones as well and you’re really off and running.

Cinema Master Audio+2

Always having the best possible sound is a great benefit too. After all, you want to make sure that you can hear everything that’s happening in your favorite movies. With this projector you get a 10-watt audio, which gives you the most clarity of sound. You might even hear things that you haven’t before in your favorite movies. With this technology you’re getting exclusive algorithms that are designed just for the BenQ brand. That means the quality that the original director intended the movie to have.

Flexible Screen Alignment

Being able to watch your movie wherever and however you want is another important feature, and that comes with the flexible screen alignment. With the BenQ HT3550 projector you can get just about any size that you want with 1.3x zoom and a very short throw. That means you don’t have to set it up too far away from the wall or screen that you’re projecting on in order to get a large image that will completely fill up your space.

Easy Integrated Zoom

The zoom features are all integrated right into the system, so you can adjust for the screen size you want quickly and easily, plus, it does most of it automatically for you. That’s because you get to set the focus adjustments and it will optimize the zoom ratio to make sure you’re getting the right quality to go along with it. That way, you’re not going to miss out on anything and you’re going to have the freedom to enjoy your movie.

Easy Setup

The BenQ HT3550 has vertical keystone function, which means that you’re going to have a square image rather than the trapezoid that you can get from other projectors. That means your projector can be placed however you want it to be without you having to worry about what it’s going to do to the end product or the screen that you’re using it with.

Universal Connectivity

Getting your projector connected to your favorite movies shouldn’t be a difficult process, and that’s definitely not the case here. In fact, you can connect via a data transfer on USB type A or you can send content without the need for any type of cables. From there, you can use anything from video and audio to even picture files. So no matter what you need to use the projector for you’re going to find options are available.

Easy Maintenance

Finally, the maintenance you’re going to need over time is extremely simple. All you need to do is let it go because it’s going to set up USB upgrades with no problem. You’ll be able to keep watching everything you want without having to worry about how it will work.

Pros & Cons

When it comes to the pros & cons, there are a number of things you’re going to want to know. Of course, all of the things we talked about above are going to be some great pros, but there are a few drawbacks that we felt might be worth mentioning. No product is ever perfect, after all. The cons might not be a big deal to you but you get to decide that for yourself.

Pros

  • Every feature listed above
  • 3-year warranty

Cons

  • Default settings for viewing are not as high quality
  • Input lag can be extensive
  • Not ideal for those intending to use for gaming
  • Brightest preset mode shows green bias
  • Image in 3D is not as bright as 2D modes

Possible Alternatives

If you’re not quite sure the BenQ HT3550 is the right option for you, there are always other options out there. Right here you can find some quality options that will give you a little bit higher end and a little bit lower end, assuming budget is a big factor in your decision-making process.

BenQ TK800

If you’re still looking for the same brand but maybe something a little better on the budget then the BenQ TK800 is a great way to go. You’ll be able to save money and still get a number of the great features. You get 92% Rec. 709 color as well as 3000 lumens of ambient light. On top of that, this is still a 4K projector with HDR and UHD. That’s not the only thing though, because you’re going to get the same 8.3 million pixels per frame and the Cinema Master Audio +2. Overall, that’s going to mean some great video quality as well as audio quality for anyone who’s interested in movies.

Now, you’re not going to have quite as much of the color spectrum with this option, which can be a little disappointing, but it’s going to still be great for the price point. Have a lower contrast ratio and lower zoom. Another downside is the throw ratio, which is higher, and the fact that your HDMI connections aren’t going to be quite the same. Still, you’re going to have some great features and for this price you’re definitely going to be getting what you would expect and more. Read our full BenQ TK800 review here.

Sony VPL-VW295ES

If budget isn’t a huge deal for you and you’re willing to spend more for more features, the Sony VPL-VW295ES can be a solid option for you.

It’s designed with 1,500 lumens to give you great brightness and also has the 4K HDR technology you would expect, plus 3 SXRD imagers. The sleek size and the triluminos display mean that you’re going to get extremely high quality and something that you can definitely expect to work for anything, from movies to gaming.

You’ll have IMAX options with this and you’ll also have lifelike motions and upscalers to give you enhanced quality. Overall, the only downside to this unit is going to be the price that you pay for it. You’re going to get a whole lot of everything otherwise and you’re definitely going to be more than happy with the way that it seems almost intuitive to exactly what you want and when you want it. So there’s a lot going on here.

Wrap Up

Overall, you’re going to find a number of great benefits with this projector. It has a whole lot of features and it actually makes a great impression, especially at the price point. As far as we’re concerned, this is definitely a piece you’re not going to want to miss and it’s going to make sure that your game nights or movie nights or just regular watching are going to be better than you might have expected and hopefully this BenQ HT3550 review will help you to know that.

You might want to take into account the color accuracy, the brightness, and contrast that your projector provides. Usually, these 1080p projectors come with a good quality of the picture, as you could see above.

Our five suggestions are all able to provide lifelike experiences and pictures, with their contrast of 15:000:1 or even more, along with the efficient and smart technologies they work on, such as 3LCD.

Another aspect you should keep in mind is connectivity. Whether you want to watch movies and videos, play games or simply use the projector as a screen, you will need to connect it to different devices. A good projector offers multi-platform digital connectivity, such as HDMI and can be connected to anything you want easily and efficiently!

For those who need a projector for business purposes, the factors differ a bit. You’ve read our suggestions for the best 1080p projectors under $1000 and you have seen that most of them were designed to provide powerful messages and pictures in order for your job to be well done. This is why you should be aware of the quality of the picture that a projector provides and also of the sound system, which might not be able to reach to everyone’s ears.

Projectors such as InFocus IN118HDxc and BenQ MH535A are designed for efficient business presentations but might go well only with small groups of people, as they aim at emphasizing the most important messages in a presentation, such as a subtitle, the written texts and the details of the pictures.

Also, as stated above, pay attention to the connectivity of the projector and to its compatibility with other devices, and this way, you make sure you’re all set for a great meeting!

BenQ HT3050 Review

The BenQ HT3050 is the closest thing to a movie theater experience we’ve had with any projector that costs less than a thousand bucks. It’s easy to believe it’s impossible to get that kind of experience from the comfort of your home without spending a fortune, but this projector proves that’s not true. With the help of a great home theater projector, like the BenQ HT3050, you absolutely can get that experience and without breaking the bank.

Who It’s For

If you’re the type of person who loves movies of all types and who has a great movie collection at home you want the best possible way to watch them. If you love going to the theater but don’t want to spend all that money (or want to do it in your favorite comfy clothes and with all your own free snacks) then you’re the right person for this home theater system. For those who watch very few at-home movies or who find that movies on their TV are sufficient you may not reap the value of this home theater projector (or any other).

Things to know about the BenQ HT3050

If you’re looking for a great home theater projector you want something that’s going to give you great benefits and that’s really going to make your experience as awesome as possible. If you’re going to make an investment in the BenQ HT3050, you’ll want to know what’s different about it. Here’s a list for you:

High quality images

One of the best features of this project is that it gives you some great quality with 1080p. It has strong colors because of the wide color palette and 100% Rec. 709 that’s offered. This gives you a total of 15,000: 1 contrast. Not only that but it offers sharpness and brightness to top it all off. What that means is you’re going to feel just like you’re watching on a high quality TV or like you’re watching in the theater (or even better). You shouldn’t have to sacrifice in order to get the great image that you’re looking for.

Silent operation

Very few things are worse than having to listen to a noisy projector while trying to enjoy a movie with friends/family. A lot of projectors can be extremely loud and that most definitely takes away from your movie watching. With this particular projector you don’t have to worry about that because it’s considered ‘whisper quiet.’ That means you’ll barely even realize that it’s doing anything (other than the movie projected on the wall, that is).

Low heat emission

Another drawback that many projectors have is that they emit a large amount of heat while you’re using them. That means that if you’re sitting too close you could get overheated. You also might have to worry about damage to anything near the projector or about getting the room too warm if you’re watching multiple movies.

This projector doesn’t let out that kind of heat emission, which means you won’t have to worry about anything getting too warm. You’ll be able to keep watching as many movies as you want and still stay comfortable at the same time.

Visible in lit spaces

This is a subtle benefit of the BenQ HT3050 but, in our experience, the pictures looked amazing even when we had the lights on. Projectors have evolved very slowly on this front but this projector seems to have nailed it.

Volume

Another subtle benefit but you might be surprised to find out how many (expensive) projectors have a volume control issue. The volume is something that can either make or break your entertainment experience.

You want to be able to hear the movie that you’re watching and that means you need something with good volume control and volume options. Luckily, the BenQ HT3050 projector absolutely provides that. You’ll be able to turn the volume up as loud as you could possibly need it. Then, you’ll be able to turn it right back down again when you’re trying to keep the young ones sleeping at nap time or keep the neighbors from being bothered when you’re watching anything early (or late).

Several HDMI inputs

Being able to connect anything that you want directly to your projector makes it a lot easier for you to watch whatever you want and to get the right volume and quality as well. You can connect your videos in different ways and you can even connect external speakers if you want even better quality or different types of volume. No matter what you’re looking for you’ll be able to connect it here, especially with the added features of those HDMI ports. One is even MHL enabled so you can connect your mobile device to your projector to show even more videos.

Large ‘screen’ size

With the BenQ HT3050 projector you’ll be able to get a total ‘screen’ size that’s large enough to really feel like you’re in the middle of your favorite theater. From just 8.4’ you’ll get an image that’s up to 100”  in total size and you’ll have a diagonal screen size of 60” to 180”, depending on the overall size you’re looking for.

Easy to use

When it comes to setting up your projector you want to get it done and over with so you can just get on with life, right? Well, that’s not a problem with this system because it’s designed to give you ease of use.

It will only take a few minutes for you to set up the system with the video you want to watch and start playing. That way there’s no learning curve and there’s no need to worry about anyone else using the system either. It’s going to be simple enough that you may even be able to get the young ones using it in no time.

Efficiency

It’s always great when you can cut your expenses down and help the environment while you’re at it. There’s another area where the BenQ HT3050 soars. It’s able to give you up to 7,000 hours of lamp life and offers an auto standby mode. That means if you do stop watching or the machine is idle for too long it actually turns itself to stand-by and makes sure that you’re not using as much power. And all of this through the smart eco technology within the device.

Pros & Cons

So, with all those different features just what should you know? What should you be considering before you decide if this is the right system for you? Well, there are a number of things to think about, but we’re going to go over some of the great things and some of the not-so-great things. That way, you’ll be making the right choice for you and your family. After all, we don’t want you getting a system that’s not going to work for your needs.

There are definitely a lot of great features that you’re going to like with this product as well as a few not-so-great ones that you might want to at least consider before you dive in. Just take a minute to review the features we talked about above as well as the pros and cons we have listed here. You might see something that really makes the decision for you (like maybe the high quality colors or the quiet fan) or something that really pushes you the other way (like the slightly longer input lag or the higher price point to some of the other options out there).

Alternatives

Okay, so let’s say you’re not sure about this projector. Maybe it just doesn’t seem like the right fit for you or it doesn’t seem like the features are what you’re really looking for. Don’t feel discouraged. You’re not out of luck entirely. There are actually plenty of other options out there.

In fact, there are hundreds and maybe even thousands of different projectors that can be a great pick for your needs. Let’s take a look at a few of options and maybe you’ll find something else that will work for you.

Epson Home Cinema 2150

This Epson Home Cinema 2150 is slightly lower in price than the BenQ HT3050 (though not much) and it does have some other great features. It’s able to give you up to 132” diagonal of screen space and it gives you extremely high contrast for great quality. You’ll also have wireless screen mirroring and you can stream content, including through the MHL enabled port. All of this makes it a great option with some really great fixtures. You’ll even have a simple installation and setup process to go along with it.

On the other hand, you’ll find that the normal mode of power does make a bit of noise and you’ll get a lot of hot air blowing out of the vent when you have it going. You’ll also notice that this projector doesn’t have quite the clarity of colors that you’ll get with some other projectors, so you might have some areas that are a little washed out and you may also have a little bit of a problem with the speakers that are built into the unit. These can be a little lower quality and you may want to add your own instead.

Optoma HD27HDR

Listed among the best budget 1080p projectors, the Optoma HD27 system offers extremely quick input response when you connect it to your gaming console or a high performance PC. That means you shouldn’t have a problem streaming your games. You’ll also have up to 15,000 hours of life to the lamp and you’ll have extremely high quality brightness. Add in the wide range of different colors supported and the clarity of those colors and your game play is going to be better than ever, especially since it connects to just about any gaming console, PC, media player or mobile device.

When you’re running this system all the way at full power you may find that the fan is a bit loud, but it’s not going to detract too much from your game play. It also has a few less customization options than you might want as a hardcore gamer. You only get a single HDR setting and a bit of banding and rainbow effect, but overall you’re going to have a lot of benefits.

If you’re looking for a gaming option rather than a standard movie play option you’ll find a lot of great features here. You can check out our full Optoma HD27 review here.

BenQ TK800

If you’re looking to really get top of the line you may want to amp up to the BenQ TK800. While some might consider this projector to be leaning towards the pricey side, it comes with some of the absolute best features  that you could ask for, including the best possible colors no matter what the lighting in your environment. You’ll have 3 million pixels, which give you 4k UHD image quality and you’re going to have a lightweight and super simple system, so you don’t have to spend a lot of time figuring it out. Add in dedicated channels for different types of viewing and you’re going to have about everything you could possibly want.

On the other side of things, you’re only going to have limited HDR support and you won’t have any SPDIF output. You also won’t have horizontal keystone adjustments or lens shifts. There’s also a border around the outside if you aren’t careful about adjusting your screen size to overfill the screen. You’ll also notice that there’s a bit of noise when it’s running, though this is usually drowned out by the sound of the video that you’re watching itself.

Vankyo V600

Although we haven’t tested the Vankyo V600 yet, we feel comfortable listing it as an alternative based on our research and the words of several credible sources.

This is a great place to start if you’re looking for a budget-friendly 1080p option to get you started with projectors for your videos and games. It offers a good amount of brightness and the lamp is designed to last approximately 7,000 hours. On top of that you’ll have 2 HDMI ports and one of them is considered a premium audio, which connects to streaming devices and mobile devices as well.

The drawbacks here are that this device only gives you a contrast ratio of 5,000:1 and can be a little heavier than others (though not too much). It’s also only able to use digital zoom with no optical options. The fan is quite loud on this one and you’ll notice that focus and the keystone adjustments are going to be relatively basic. On top of that, there’s no way to reorient for rear projection or ceiling mounting other than flipping the device itself around, which can be a bit difficult for some. Still, you’ll have a good budget option that can get the job done and give you good quality overall.

Wrap up

Overall, there are a number of different projectors out there and while the BenQ HT3050 may not be for everyone, it’s definitely a great option to consider. It offers great quality to the picture, a large image and some excellent color variation. Not only that but you’ll get the quietest fan available in the market and eco technology. You’ll just have to counter the price and the fact that there’s no sleep timer. So it’s going to be up to you whether you want this one or one of our top alternatives.
