The Sony VPL-XW6000ES is a 2500 ANSI Lumens 4K Laser projector that delivers perfect images in native 4K. Its use of laser instead of lamp technology means you no longer have to worry about the maintenance costs of replacing your lamp over the lifespan of your projector. There aren’t many projectors comparable to this one for the image crispness, advanced features, and reliability that you get at this price range. This is one to strongly consider if you’re looking for a long-term investment to enhance the viewing experience in your home.

The recommended max throw distance for a clear 4K image on a 16:9 200″ screen is 42.5ft (13.0m).
It wasn’t that long ago it would have cost around $20K to get a decent 4K laser projector without the advanced features of the VPL-XW6000ES. From that perspective, this represents amazing value.
The major determining factor of value is how this projector compares to its predecessor, the Sony VPL-XW5000ES, which is half the price. With the XW6000ES, you get 3D support*, 500 additional lumens for more brightness with 500 additional lumens, and a motorized ACF lens (unlike the manual XW lens on the XW5000ES) which widens the focus area and ensures clear images from corner to corner of the screen.
*The 3D situation is a perplexing one. There are cheaper (non-laser 4K) projectors with in-built 3D emitters, which makes it strange that a high-end projector like the XW6000ES and more expensive Sony models require an external emitter to get the 3D experience.
Our verdict is you should only consider the XW5000ES if you’re looking to test the waters in the premium 4K terrain. If you’re looking for a native 4K laser projector that will deliver stunning pictures every time for many years to come with no maintenance costs, then look no further than Sony’s VPL-XW6000ES.
