Product Description:

The Sony VPL-XW5000ES is a 2000 ANSI Lumens 4K Laser projector that delivers perfect images in native 4K. Its use of laser instead of lamp technology means you no longer have to worry about the maintenance costs of replacing your lamp over the lifespan of your projector. The XW5000ES has several advanced features, albeit with a few annoyances, and remains one of, if not, the most affordable laser 4K projector in the market.

I can't say there was ever a moment in the few hours of viewing that I ever felt the picture wasn't stellar, or that I couldn't live happily with it long-term.

Final Words:

Here at Digital Art Projectors, we tend to break 4K projectors into three categories. First, we have the Pretenders – these are the “faux-K” projectors that deliver pictures with better quality than your average projector but mainly rely on pixel-shifting technology rather than native 4K devices. Next, we have the Middlers. In this category, you can enhance your viewing experience with native 4K without needing to break the bank for a projector that comes with real advanced technology.

The final category is Tier 1. These projectors are typically from bigger and more trusted brands like Sony, and they have more advanced features than the Pretenders and Middlers. Tier 1 projectors tend to cost over CAD 7,000. The Sony VPL-XW5000ES is an entry-level Tier 1 4K projector.

What you get with the XW5000ES is the best of Sony’s image processing, courtesy of the X1 Ultimate for projector processor, which is what delivers stellar images. For all the complaints I have, particularly regarding the lack of 3D functionality and annoying lens (likely to push the value of their more expensive models), they do nail picture quality with this projector. You will also be buying into the comfort of knowing your projector is from a leader in this space, with access to an incredible support team.

For these reasons, plus the fact that the XW5000ES is still among the least expensive native 4K laser projectors currently available in the market, we strongly recommend this projector to anyone looking to transition into the world of premium picture quality.
